A Little Pug’s Prayer
Thank you David Keeley for sending this poem to us. We are so glad you have adopted Miley and Cooper.
A Little Pug’s Prayer
By Sandie Levine
In Honor of Suki and In Memory of Little Dude
I’m so longing for someone to call my own,
Dear God, please give me a forever home.
I want to give nose licks to children and play,
Please tell me, Dear God, can today be the day?
I’m alone in this cage, so hungry and scared
Dear God, if I could just have someone who cared
Enough to take me away from this place
I’ll lavish Puggie kisses all over her face.
I know if she saw me so broken and sad
She’d cry and hold me and I’d be so glad
To be loved and bathed, given good food to eat
And maybe an occasional special treat.
I pray for a gentle hand on my head,
Kind words and please, Lord, a soft warm bed.
My eyes are infected and my skin is so sore.
But my tail still curls and I can do the Puggie snore.
Surely my new Mommy would see through the hurt and pain
That I’m still beautiful on the inside and
That my wait for her has not been in vain.
I still have my big heart so loyal and true.
With so much love to give to one or a few.
My babies are gone now, they took them all away.
Lord, is there some reason why I still have to stay
In this prison where I’m lonely, in pain and so cold?
Can I please know love, just once before I’m old?
Dear God, if you can hear me from so far up above,
Please send me my forever family to love.

Hello! I see you found my poem on the Showdog Magazine website. I was pleasantly surprised to see it here. I wrote this poem a few years ago when I first became interested in rescue. Suki was my first Pug. She is now 8 years old. Little Dude was my friend’s Pug, who passed away from liver shunt when he was 5 months old. I have since adopted a second Pug of my own who is currently battling MCT. Thank you for all that you do to rescue needy Pugs and find loving homes for them. God bless.
Hi Sandie,
Thank you so much for your comment. It was so nice to see you on here posting. We absolutely loved the poem you wrote and we all share in the love of pugs.

Hi Sandie..
I was Cooper’s foster mom! His adopted dad Dave sent us your beautiful poem in appreciation for the rescue taking care of his son Cooper & his daughter Miley prior to their adoption!! I still tear up every time I read your poem!! What a wonderful tribute to all the pugs who have so much love to give & who do not get it back until they reach people like you & organizations like ours!!
Thank you for loving heart & awesome talent!!
Hello, Laurie,
Thank you for everything you and your organization do for all the needy Pugs. I am glad you enjoyed my poem. I wrote it for all the Pugs in the puppymills. Being from PA and living just a stone’s throw from the Amish breeders, these dogs are on my mind a lot of the time. One particularly bitter cold winter night I was snuggling in bed with one of my own Pugs and thinking about all the ones freezing in the cold unheated barns of the Amish millers. I couldn’t sleep. The words just started coming to me, so I got up and wrote the poem “A Little Pug’s Prayer.” I’ve written many other poems since but this is the only one specifically written for the Pugs. The words just sort of come to me at odd times. I like to think the dogs are somehow speaking to me and that I’m just writing down and sharing their thoughts.
Beautiful…….Best Ever………..
With Love, Foster Mom Brenda
Thank you, Brenda. God bless you and all the foster moms who give these babies a soft place to land while waiting for a forever home.
