Xaviar Bones
Congratulations, Bones, on your new home!
My name is Xaviar Bones. I am a VERY SPECIAL pug looking for a VERY SPECIAL family. My history is pretty sad, so get out your tissues…
I was kept for the first three years of my life locked in a wire cage in a puppy mill. I was beaten and starved and all sorts of horrible things. I was pretty close to cashing it all in when I was rescued by CFPR. My feet were so swollen and my pads cut up by the wire in my cage I couldn’t walk at first. I could barely eat because my mouth was so sore from malnutrition. Because I grew up in a small cage I never learned how to play and my muscles never had a chance to fill out like a proper pug’s. When I first got to CFPR I was so scared…all I wanted to do was cower in the corner of my kennel. Walking hurt too much…and I had never met anyone who didn’t kick or punch me.
But in the last few months so many things have changed. My feet don’t hurt anymore…and I get to walk on soft carpets, snuggly blankets and lots of fresh green grass! I am working on those muscles…I still can’t jump and run fast like the other pugs can, but my muscles and coordination are getting better every day. The food I am getting now is topnotch and now that I’ve had all my dental work, I am eating like a champ! I love the company of other pugs and will play all day if you let me…although I am three, this is my first puppyhood and I am going to enjoy it! I haven’t forgotten my manners though and am always polite…just see how fast I can sit for my treats! I am housebroken and neutered, and I wiggle my tongue at you whenever I want my treat! It is much more civilized than barking! You need to know, though, that I am still really scared of people because of the terrible things they did to me in my former life. I don’t like to be touched, and you really have to give me my space. With lots of love, patience and understanding, I feel sure I can come around. Are you a Pug Whisperer? Because that’s what I need…someone who has the kindness and patience to listen to what I have to say and to love me for who I am. With your help, I will come around and be your best friend ever. That’s what pugs do.
Adoption Fee: $275

Poor Xavier! This is absolutely heartbreaking! How is he doing? I am planning to adopt this summer… he may be at the top of my list!
Tracy, He is coming along very nicely. He loves running and playing with his foster brothers and sisters. He is still shy with the human touch. I pick him up and hold him every so often. It still takes him about 5 minutes to calm down. Another couple of weeks and I think he will be able to trust more. It is heart breaking to see a pug reacting like this.
Thanks for the update, Wendi. It already sounds like he’s come a long way since the picture above. : )
Tracy I met him last week and is he ever precious! There’s a lot of love at Wendi’s house, so he’s coming along nicely!
That’s great! If he is still available in June, I will definitely consider him. I would like to spend the summer with him helping him adjust to his new surroundings. My heart goes out to him.
I got to meet “Bones” tonight and he is so cute. He really needs someone to love him because he truly deserves it. He has had a really BAD life before he was rescued and now is in a wonderful foster home with a very loving family who will help him trust humans again. NO PUG OR ANY DOG SHOULD HAVE HAD TO GO THROUGH WHAT HE DID BEFORE HE WAS RESCUED!
Hi Wendi,
How well would Xavier do with steps? I live in an upstairs apartment with 17 steps.
Thanks : )
I am sure he would be OK with some stairs. His legs seem to be getting stronger from all the running around he is doing with his foster siblings. He is really becoming mischievous and playful with the pugs. He is still not certain about humans though. He is getting better each day. I will not allow him to be adopted until he shows more confidence with people.
Hi Wendi, how is Xavier doing? We are always thinking about him.
I think xavier bones is precious so happy he is in a loving foster home getting plenty of love I hope he finds a forever home real soon
Laura, he continues to improve and we are currently working with him to find the perfect forever family. Any time he is “caught” he still shakes like a leaf in a hurricane. He does love to play with his foster brothers and sisters a lot. He has discovered how fun it is to play pull with Jasper and loves to find a corner and gnaw on an antler. He even tries to pugtona a bit with the guys, but he still has some issues in his hips or knees that hold him back. He will eventually be a great companion to some family.
He is so cute and thats a very sad story. Frist, can you tell me how to pronounce his name.Next,Can you PLEASE tell me how much is he.Agin,PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE,tell me how much it would cost to adopt him.
HI Autumn, I was just notified that Xavier is $300, not $350.

Hi Autumn,
His name is pronounced X-A-V-R
Just say the letters.
He is getting better each day. He doesn’t like loud noises or fast moving things (Like kids). He needs a quiet, peaceful home. I would like to see him have a lot of dog friends too… he loves to play with the pugs.
Is he still available?
Hi Christine,
Yes, Xavier is still available. Wendi is his foster mom and she can share additional information with you. If you would like to learn more about him and consider adopting him, please complete the online application. You must be a very special person. Thank you. Judi – Adoption Coordinator
Christine,
Xaviar is available now. He has come a very long way in his road to recovery from being some kind of thing in a cage to be REAL pug. As you read he came from the worst conditions imagined. He will now come to most people to be petted,he loves to run and chase he foster brothers and chew on his antlers. He is not a cuddle guy(YET)but we are working on that..Physically he is in perfect shape, he still is learning how to totaly relax around Humans….
That poor little guy. Horrible, horrible. That is why I am interested in a rescue. How can people be sooo mean to a lovable baby, especially a pug. They are so lovable. I can go on and on. Hope that he is able to get a loving home soon.
Wendi,

Hello Kim. We are so glad you have decided to consider a rescue Pug. Xavier does have someone adopting him, but we do have many other pugs available for adoption. Please meet them on the website and fill out an adoption application if you find one that captures your heart. Judi, our Adoption Coordinator will get in touch with you and help arrange a meet and greet with the pug of your choice.
