Ralphie

8/10/10: A note from my foster mom:

Ralphie came in to rescue almost a year ago as a 7 year old with health issues. We knew right away that he was at least 14 years old. I was so lucky to have him for as long as I did.  Ralphie gave my family alot of joy and some good laughs. Ralphie never did see well and had problems with that. He always thought his back legs were sneaking up to steal his toys or food. He was a sweet little gentleman that was proper right to the end. In all his struggling to breath Ralphie always tried to make it outside and not mess himself, even giving us a one legged burnout after his job was done. He loved his toys and any love and attention he got, which we loved giving him.
Ralphie had been doing really well but the last couple days he started having problems again and today I took him in and Doc said that the meds weren’t helping him. They gave him a couple of injections to open his airways but it did not help. I promise my babies they will not suffer and so it was Ralphie’s time.  He arrived at the clinic today with his head up and his vest and bow tie on. Gotta look good right to the end.  He went quietly and is not struggling anymore. Now I struggle to send one more of our babies over the bridge.  Make no mistake, I am proud to be the one who’s life is forever changed by each one of them. I wouldn’t have it any other way.  I thank you all for allowing me to be the one who is given this wonderful time to spend making them happy and spoiling them for whatever time they have. Ralphie knew I loved him very much and I know he loved me.

Ralphie is buried in the burial ground with Paisley and his friends. Goodbye my baby Ralphie. Nita

_______________________________________

My name is Ralphie and  I am 13 years old.  I came to CFPR from a Miami shelter.

I have been diagnosed with severe arthritis, a hip degeneration, and a behavior disorder. I do bark, and for some reason I go after my back legs. The Dr. believes it is because of my lack of good vision.  Those back legs are always sneaking up on me to stel my treats and toys. My foster mom says it’s cute, but strange.

I am not adoptable so I am in hospice care and my foster mom loves and takes good care of me. I will stay with my mom for the rest of my life.

Did I mention I love to carry my stuffed bone around?  I have to keep it away from those sneaky back legs.

Ralphie is my sweet gentleman. He spends his time carrying around his toys and even at his age wants to play. Ralphie has a behavioral disorder, actually he just doesn’t see well anymore and thinks his back leg is sneaking up on him, gonna steal his toy.lol For us we think he’s too cute for words. My little snuggle boy is a slow moving gentle baby. We love Ralphie and he makes our home complete.

Ralphie is still carrying around his toys and protecting them from that back leg. He brings a smile to your face when you see him. He is having a harder and harder time getting up from a resting position but, who of us isn’t. lol
Ralphie just keeps going with a toy in his mouth. So sweet. Juanita
